Churches Offer Vigils to Those Grieving Las Vegas Tragedy

From the Vegas strip to a West Hartford church, healing and hope are coming together just days after the nation’s deadliest mass shooting in recent history.

“I think one of the most important things about gathering people together is that people will understand that they're not alone,” Reverend Adam Robersmith said.

This afternoon's prayer vigil is really designed this opportunity for people to be able to come in and weep or pray or just be,” Robersmith said.

Reverend Adam Robersmith with the Universalist Church of West Hartford, hopes by coming together, people here can start to heal together.

“I think one of the most important things about gathering people together is that people will understand that they're not alone,” Robersmith said.

“I think we have had so many issues with gun violence in our country,” Linda Scacco said.

Scacco attended the vigil and read a poem.

“It’s very distressing and I think we need to be together when things like this happen,” Scacco said.

Robersmith offered attendees to light a candle, a symbolic moment to signify that in times of darkness there is light.

“In times of stress and strain in times of tragedy we need to be gentle with ourselves and one another,” Robersmith said.
