Convicted Killer Appealing Manslaughter Rap

A former Plainfield man convicted in a 1998 shooting death of a teen raised questions about his lawyer's conduct and the prosecutor's marriage to a juror after the trial. Now, a judge is hearing his appeal.

Ryan Thompson, 29, was sentenced in 2000 on a manslaughter conviction in the death of 17-year-old Rob McCaffery. His case is before Rockville Superior Court Judge John Nazzaro

Thompson claims his lawyer, Arthur Meisler, who killed himself a year after Thompson was sentenced, failed to present evidence that would have exonerated him.

Thompson lawyer is also raising questions about prosecutor Vincent Dooley's marriage to a juror in the case about a year after Thompson was convicted.

Dooley declined to comment while leaving court Thursday.
