Dad Hit Child for Spilling Marijuana: Police

A Middletown man is accused of leaving his two young children home alone so he could go out drinking, then hitting his 5-year-old son in the head for knocking marijuana onto the ground.

Police responded to an apartment at 542 Main Street just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday after someone reported that Edward Salz, 37, had struck his 5-year-old son in the head several times after becoming “enraged” that the little boy had knocked over some of his marijuana, according to police.

When police started to investigate, they learned Salz and the child’s mother had gone to a bar for drinks, leaving the children alone in deplorable conditions and with marijuana and drug paraphernalia around.

Salz was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana.

He was held on a surety bond and was due in court on Monday.

Police also arrested Bobbi-Jo Lamont, 26, and charged her with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. She was held on a $50,000 surety bond and was also due in court on Monday.
