Fire Set in Hartford: Officials

Witnesses told police they saw a man with a gas can.

Investigators are looking into a suspicious fire they believe was set at a home on Lincoln Street in Hartford around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Several neighbors called 911 and reported loud explosions.

Witnesses reported seeing a man running around with a gas can in front of the house. Seconds later, the three-story home was in flames, forcing a mother and her three children from their home on the first floor.

"All of a sudden, we felt a rumble and the next thing we hear all the fire trucks and police cars coming through," Victoria Hall said.

Carlton Lee's sister was the woman who was home with the children. When he returned home, he tried to check to see if anyone was in the house.

“But they stopped me at the living room and said my family was next door. That was a relief,” Lee said.

No one was hurt during the fire and the second and third floors of the house were unoccupied, officials said.

Police don't have an exact description of the man they are looking for.
