It only took one week of the high school football season for a state record to be broken. Hall High School kicker, Noe Ruelas hit a 56-yard field goal in the Warriors game against Simsbury on Friday night, breaking the Connecticut state record by two yards.
According to the Connecticut High School Record Book, three kickers held the record of 54-yards, but now Ruelas sits alone at the top of that list.
Ruelas posted the video on his social media and it has since picked up more than 17,000 views. He said he’s overwhelmed by the response from the state.
“It was pretty crazy,” said Ruelas, a senior at Hall. “I didn’t really expect it to be that big. It kind of went a little bit viral on Twitter. It has 17,000 views. I didn’t really expect that. I thought maybe like a few hundred at most.”
Ruelas said his talent for kicking has come from hard work and training. But his teammates and coaches aren’t surprised to see that gametime performance. Last season he hit a 52-yard field goal against Glastonbury.
“We knew he could do it,’ said Hall football head coach Frank Robinson. “He’s consistent. He does it in practice. But it was one of those things, one it happened it was a really amazing feat.”
Ruelas is hoping to play Division I football and Friday night’s kick has already caught the attention of a handful of schools. Ruelas said he’s already had contact from UConn and Central Connecticut State.
