Police Arrest Man Accused in New Britain Hit-and-Run That Critically Injured Man

Police have arrested a man suspected of hitting a pedestrian in New Britain Thursday night then leaving the scene, as well as a passenger in the vehicle who is accused of lying to police.

Christopher Myers, 31, of New Britain, is accused of hitting 55-year-old Gerald Aleksiewicz, of New Britain, in a parking lot on Arch Street just before 8 p.m. Thursday and fleeing the scene.

Police said Aleksiewicz was walking in the back parking lot of 75 Arch St. when he was hit and he’s in critical condition.

On Tuesday, police arrested Myers and charged him with felony evading responsibility. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Police also arrested 35-year-old Anthony Omar Rios-Ruiz, of New Britain.

Officials said he was a passenger in the car and gave officers a false name and a false account of the accident shortly after Aleksiewicz was hit.

Rios-Ruiz was charged with interfering with police and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
