Memorial Today for Woodbridge Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

A memorial will be held on Wednesday in Colorado for a Woodbridge native who was killed during a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

PFC. Eric D. Soufrine, 20, died after his unit was attacked by an improvised explosive device in the Farah province of Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.  

He was assigned to Fort Carson Colorado and was two weeks away from completing his tour of duty when he was killed.

Soufrine was a 2009 graduate of Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge. First Selectman Edward Sheehy said the family has deep roots in the Woodbridge community. 

Soufrine's grandfather is a Korean War veteran and was recently honored at the town's Memorial Day Service.

Soufrine's was the first person from Woodbridge killed in combat in more than 40 years.
