Northeast Utilities CEO Hospitalized

Other executives take over temporarily.

The chief executive officer of Northeast Utilities is recovering after an unspecified heart-related incident and three executives are temporarily running the company.

Officials from the Berlin-based utility said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that Charles W. Shivery, chairman of the board, president, and CEO, experienced a heart problem on Sunday and is expected to be released from a hospital shortly.

"On January 8, 2012, Charles W. Shivery, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Northeast Utilities, experienced a heart-related incident and sought immediate medical attention. He is expected to be released from the hospital shortly and to resume a regular workload after a period of recovery," the filing said.

Chief Operating Officer Leon Olivier, Chief Financial Officer David McHale and the general counsel, Gregory Butler, will run the company in Shivery's absence.

NU is the parent company of Connecticut Light & Power, Western Massachusetts Electric Co., Public Service of New Hampshire and Yankee Gas.

A spokesman did not immediately return a call from the Associated Press on Tuesday morning seeking details.
