“Mayor Mike” Peters Laid To Rest

They were some of Connecticut's political powerhouses.   And they were regular, everyday working people.

Hundreds jammed St. Augustine's Church in Hartford Thursday morning to pay their final respects to former Mayor Michael Peters.    Peters died Monday at the age of 60 from kidney failure.  Only weeks early he had undergone a successful liver transplant.

Governor Jodi Rell led the mourners, who included Congressman John Larson, Mayors Eddie Perez of Hartford and Dan Malloy of Stamford, and former governor John Rowland.

Archbishop Henry Mansell was one of the celebrants of the Mass.  He said Peters was a real champion of Hartford, a man who dearly loved his city and served it as a fireman,  a member of various boards, and as mayor.

Peters was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
