Police Arrest Second Suspect in Shelton Assault

The victim will need plastic surgery after severe head and face injuries, police said.

Shelton police have arrested an 18-year-old Orange man accused of beating a 32-year-old man so badly on St. Patrick’s Day that the victim will need plastic surgery.

On Tuesday, police served an arrest warrant charging Andrew O'Connell with first-degree assault and first-degree conspiracy to commit assault.

Two days earlier, police charged  Daniel Zeleznik, 23, of Shelton, in connection with the attack and police said they have another warrant and they are looking for the suspect.

Shortly after midnight on St. Patrick’s Day, passersby found a man at Coram Avenue and Kneen Street. He was unconscious and bleeding heavily from the face and head, police said.

The victim was brought to Bridgeport Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for two days.

Police said the victim suffered severe head and facial injuries and will require plastic surgery to correct.

After several interviews, police arrested Zeleznik on March 24, at his house on a warrant.

He was charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree.

Zeleznik posted a $100,000 bond and is due in Derby Superior Court on April 9.

O'Connell was held on $250,000 bond and was arraigned at Derby Superior Court on Wednesday.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information about the assault to call Shelton Police at 203-924-1544.
