Officer Stabbed During Altercation

A New Britain Police Officer was stabbed twice.

A New Britain police officer was stabbed twice while trying to apprehend a suspect early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of a male assaulting a 48-year-old female in the area of 145 Emily Drive and encountered Christopher Denigris, 51, allegedly assaulting his common law wife.

According to police, Denigris charged at the officers and fought with them.

During the altercation, Officer Bruce Moro was stabbed twice.

Police officials said that Denigris also tried to stab a second officer in the chest, but notebooks in his shirt pocket stopped the blade from penetrating.

Denigris jumped into one of the officer's cruisers and attempted to flee, only to crash the vehicle into a nearby fence after officers intervened.

Denigris is charged with multiple offenses, including criminal attempt to commit murder, assault in the first degree, assault on police, kidnapping, larceny in the first degree, and criminal violation of protective order.

Denigris is being held on a $2 million bond.

Captain James Wardwell said in a statement that Officer Moro, who has been with the department since 2009. He was released from the hospital on Monday.
