Meriden police are trying to find the driver of a car who hit a bicyclist Saturday night.

The victim, hung onto the car's sunroof by his fingertips for 500 yards as the driver tried to pry him free.

"The operator of the vehicle was trying to get the bicyclist, the victim, who was hanging onto the sunroof, trying to push him off," said Lt. Mark Walerysiak.

It happened on Saturday about 9:30 p.m. on Lewis Avenue near the entrance to Mid-State Medical Center.   The victim, 55-year-old John Genis, suffered a broken leg and other injuries.  He finally fell off near Bartlett Street.

"We're trying to get surveillance from area businesses,"  said Lt. Walerysiak.  "We're trying to canvass the area to get more accounts from eyewitnesses, and we're looking for any vehicles with damage to the hood or windshield."

The only description police have of the vehicle is that it is small and dark.
