Suspect in Shooting at Windham Apartments Arrested

A 33-year-old Uncasville man was shot and stabbed during a drug theft at the Briarwood Apartments on Bricktop Road in Windham on Oct. 16, according to Connecticut State Police, who said they arrested the suspected shooter over the weekend.

Connecticut State Police troopers responded to reports of an altercation in an apartment around 8:30 p.m. that Tuesday night and found a victim in the stairwell with both a gunshot wound and a stab wound.

He was transported to Hartford Hospital, then flown to Windham Hospital, according to state police.

The arrest warrant application says the victim identified 20-year-old Alexander Santana, of Montville, as the suspect. He told police that Santana reached out to him and asked to come over and buy $40 worth of cocaine.

After using cocaine, Santana started sending messages on his phone, the victim told police.

At one point he left Santana to go to the kitchen and found Santana with another person when he returned to the living room. Both had guns and demanded drugs and money, the arrest warrant application says.

The victim told police that the person who was with Santana stabbed him and that Santana grabbed the backpack containing marijuana, cocaine and cash and shot him, the arrest warrant application says.

Early Saturday morning, police served two search warrants and arrested Santana.

He has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, assault in the first degree, threatening in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, carrying a firearm without a permit, criminal use of a firearm, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Bond was set at $300,000.
