Salisbury Rotary Club Explains Delays in Fireworks Display

The event is their largest fundraiser of the year and raises money for local scholarships, community gifts and other projects.

The organizers of a fireworks display that raises money for several charities in Salisbury are apologizing after delays to fireworks at Lime Rock Park last night and they are offering refunds to people who want one.

The Rotary Club of Salisbury posted a news release on its website explaining what happened.

They said events were proceeding as planned when it got dark and Legion Fireworks, the pyrotechnic company the rotary club has hired for several years, was ready to go, but there were electrical problems with the automated firing mechanism.

Initially, it looked like the issue would be rectified in minutes, but “persisted despite repeated ‘fixes’.”

Organizers discussed overriding the electronics and firing the explosives manually, but said safety and other issues intervened.

“Ultimately, Legion Fireworks reluctantly decided to fire them manually, and SRC (Rotary Club of Salisbury ) made the decision to proceed. A full fireworks display went off successfully, albeit later than usual. Regretfully, a fairly significant percentage of what was a huge crowd had already left,” the statement on the rotary club’s website says.

“The Salisbury Rotary Club, Lime Rock Park and Legion Fireworks all extend their sincerest apologies to our community. The annual fireworks display is SRC's largest fundraiser, proceeds go to local scholarships, community gifts and other projects. If you wish to have a full refund, please send a S.A.S.E. to Salisbury Rotary Club P.O. Box 287 Salisbury CT 06068 Attn: Refund
