Connecticut's two U.S. senators are urging the Centers for Disease Control and prevention to increase distribution of a certain flu vaccine manufactured in the state.
Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were scheduled to appear on Tuesday morning at Protein Sciences in Meriden to make their case for a wider distribution of Flublok, a federally approved vaccine that could be used to combat a viral outbreak of this season's influenza H3N2.
The two Democrats are scheduled to be joined by Rachael S. Felderbaum, director of corporate communications at Protein Sciences.
The CDC recently released a health alert, warning this season's flu vaccine might be ineffective against some strains of the virus. The senators said Flublok could be used as an alternative vaccine.
Protein Sciences contends Flublok provides a stronger immune response.
