Simsbury High School Evacuated for Spill

Chemicals removed from science lab and spilled onto corridors

Simsbury High School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after some alcohol-based chemicals were removed from the science labs and spilled on the second and third floor corridors, according to a letter on the school's website.

The letter says a few students who were directly exposed to the chemicals were treated by a nurse for minor skin rashes. After being evacuated for about 45 minutes, the school decided to dismiss students for the day.

Fire officials determined that the building was safe around 2:40 p.m. and allowed teachers and students to go back inside to pick up their belongings.

Principal Neil Sullivan says the school will be "following up thoroughly" on what happened.

School will open as planned on Wednesday for CAPT testing for 9th and 10th grade students.

For students who do not have CAPT responsibilities, Period 2 will begin at 10:30 a.m., according to the letter the principal posted.
