Swine Flu Vaccine Headed to CT This Week

Public Hotline Launches Monday

Connecticut is in line to receive its first shipment of the swine flu or H1N1 vaccine. 

Governor M. Jodi Rell's office announced Thursday that 20,000 doses are headed to the state this week. 

The Department of Public Health or DPH says the first round of intranasal vaccines should be given to children 2 to 4 years old who are at greater risk of severe illness if they get the virus.

Initial doses are also being made available to caregivers, heads of households with children younger than 6 months old, healthcare workers and Emergency Medical Services Personnel. 

DPH says hundreds of medical providers have already registered to receive the vaccine. Another 500,000 doses will be delivered to the state by mid-October according to Governor Rell's office. . It's open Monday Through Friday from 7AM to 7PM. 

In the meantime Connecticut is launching a public hotline Monday, October 5th, staffed by DPH representatives who are ready to answer questions about the virus and the vaccine. The number is 1-800-830-9426
