Travelers Championship Raises $1.2M for Charity

Organizers of the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Connecticut say this past summer's event generated more than $1.2 million for charity.

The June PGA tournament donates 100 percent of its net proceeds.

Tournament Director Nathan Grube this week announced the tournament has distributed $1,253,000 to 180 charities throughout the region. That is the most given out since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007.

Tournament champion Ken Duke made a personal donation of $25,000.

Grube says it's the fifth straight year his organization has been able to give out more than $1 million.

One of the biggest beneficiaries is the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses that was founded by actor Paul Newman.
