Child Revived After Being Pulled from Pool

The child was found unconscious in a backyard pool in New Haven.

A 4-year-old child has been pulled from a backyard pool in New Haven.

The child was unconscious after being taken from the pool at a home on Weybossett Street around 10:20 a.m., police said.

The boy and another 4-year-old were playing outside with no adult supervision, when he somehow fell in the pool, police said.  A family member began CPR on the boy before paramedics arrived at the house.

"The two four-year-olds, they just came out playing and as far as we know, they just came out playing," Sgt. Vincent Anastasio said.  "There's some toys in the pool, so I don't know if they were trying to retrieve the toys in the pools or what, or if one pushed the other one in or not."

Rescue crews were able to revive the child in the ambulance. He is unconscious, but breathing on his own in the Pediatric ICU at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.

The building inspector was investigating some code violations at the home, police said.
