Water Main Break Closes Route 3 in Rocky Hill

The break occurred near Inwood Road.

A water main break closed Route 3 in Rocky Hill on Wednesday.

A pipe ruptured near Inwood Road around 4 p.m., opened up a large sinkhole in the road and Route 3 was closed between Brook Street and the Cromwell town line, police said.

As many as 30 small businesses in the area were without water, according to the Metropolitan District Commission, which operates the water lines.

Crews are still making repairs and they expect water to be restored by 11 p.m., according to the MDC. The road was open before the morning commute.
