Sinkhole, Water Main Break on Harper Street in Hartford

A water main break caused a small sinkhole in Hartford early Sunday morning.

According to MDC, crews responded to a 6-inch water main break at 25 Harper Street around 3 a.m.

Nine multi-family homes located between 34 Harper Street and Love Lane were without water while crews worked to repair the break. Water service was fully restored by 7:30 a.m., according to MDC.

The water from the break washed out some of the subsurface material on Harper Street, causing a small sinkhole. The front passenger tire of a car parked there sunk into the hole and was towed away by Hartford police.

Authorities worked throughout the morning to repair the road. MDC said the project was expected to be finished by 9 a.m.
