Woman Sexually Assaulted, Stabbed in Hartford

A woman was sexually assaulted and stabbed on Marshall Street in Hartford overnight.

Police responded to the 27 Marshall Street area in Hartford early Sunday to investigate reports of a stabbing and sexual assault incident.

Officers found a woman bleeding due to a stab wound in her groin area, police said. The woman first told police a man dragged her to the back of the building and into the basement laundry room and sexually assaulted her, police said. Her accounts of the incident have since varied, according to police.

An ambulance took her to St. Francis Hospital for surgery and she is listed in stable condition, police said.

Her assailant was described to police as a man in his 30s with a scruffy beard, blue hat, black jean and black hooded sweatshirt.

The case remains under investigation.
