ATV, Dirt Bike Riders Swarm New Haven Streets: Police

Police arrested nine people on Sunday after responding to what they called mayhem of "roving droves" of ATVs and dirt bikes through city streets.

As many as 200 street racers caused traffic problems and endangered pedestrians in New Haven, according to police.

Some of the bikes and atvs went up on sidewalks, while other riders swarmed police vehicles, kicking and spitting on them, police said.

"We successfully made arrests and seizures of those creating havoc in the city," Patrol Commander Lt. Mark O'Neill said.

Those arrested were:

  • Rashon Doran, 33, Stratford
  • Byron O’Leary, 26, Meriden
  • Hugo Valentin, 23, New Haven
  • Juan Reveron, 33, New Haven
  • Jomar Cancel, 23, New Haven
  • Dereyk Grant, 39, New Haven
  • Justin Gallogly, 24, New Haven
  • Charles Brewer, 23, New Haven

The charges range from motor vehicle violations, to reckless endangerment, and drug offenses.
