Can't Touch This, or Him, or Her

If middle schools had 1980s pop theme songs, East Shore Middle School’s new song would be “Can’t Touch This,” by MC Hammer. That's because students have been violating each others space in ways that include kicking each other in the groin.

The shoreline middle school put the hammer down this week when they sent a letter to students' parents letting them know that their children can’t touch each other -- at all!

The letter, signed by principal Catherine Williams and assistant principal Amy Fedigan, states that "recent student behaviors that have seriously impacted the safety and learning of our students" include "kicking others in the groin area, grabbing and touching of others in personal areas, hugging and horseplay (pushing, shoving, etc.)"

One incident was reportedly severe enough to require medical attention.

The school also said in the letter that, depending on the “severity of the behavioral infraction,” disciplinary action might include detention, suspension or even expulsion from the school.
