Car Nails Salon, 8 Injured

Eight people were injured after a car slammed through the front window of a Milford nail salon Thursday afternoon and police do not plan to file criminal charges against the driver.

Milford emergency crews were called to Sun Nails on Bridgeport Avenue just after 3 p.m. Eight people inside the salon were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Four of those people are hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

News 12 Connecticut reports that the driver is a client of the salon and may have had an appointment just before the accident. Police said the driver, a 52-year-old Bridgeport woman, apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes by accident while parking her Honda Civic in front of the salon on Thursday afternoon.

Milford's Building Inspector was called to the scene because emergency crews initially feared the building would collapse. The building has been boarded up while police investigate.

The car went halfway into the shop, struck two people and sent debris flying into others. Witnesses say the most seriously injured victim was a salon employee who was sitting behind a desk struck by the car.

Police say they don't expect to charge the driver because the accident happened on private property.
