Contractor Suing Hartford for $2M

Contractor accused in Mayor Perez corruption case sues the city over unpaid work

The contractor at the center of a corruption scandal over discount work at Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez’s home says the city owes him $2.2 million.

Carlos Costa, of USA Contractors, claims he was doing discounted work on the kitchen and bathroom of Perez’s home at the same time he was busy with the Park Street street-scape job, a $5.3 million project, according to the Hartford Courant.

Costa alleges breach of contract, unpaid change orders and unpaid work. He filed suit last week against the city at Superior Court in Hartford.

"We got tired of waiting to get paid," said Timothy Corey, Costa's attorney.

"The only reason a suit was filed was to protect USA's claim in the event a settlement is not reached," said Perez's spokeswoman, Sarah Barr.
