A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after hitting two utility poles, a car and a house in Meriden early Friday morning.
Police said it appears that Julian Melendez, of Meriden, lost control of the 2007 Honda Civic he was driving on a bend in the road on Colony Street just after 1 a.m., hit a utility pole in front of 405 Colony St., then hit another pole and a Toyota Solaris that was in front of 409 Colony St., pushing the Toyota around 20 feet into another vehicle.
The Honda then went airborne and hit the house at 409 Colony St., causing minor damage. Melendez was the only person in the car at the time, police said.
At one point, power was out for more than 1,800 Eversource customers, but power was restored after around half an hour.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to call Acting Captain Thomas Cossette at 203-630-6256.
