Members of the Connecticut House of Representatives are remembering the late Rep. Ezequiel Santiago as a kind, soft-spoken lawmaker who fought hard for his city of Bridgeport and beyond.
The chamber on Wednesday honored the 45-year-old lawmaker, who died suddenly on March 15.
Democratic Rep. Patricia Billie Miller of Stamford recalled Santiago as a quiet person who had "fortitude to fight for what was right." Many lawmakers noted his support for a higher minimum wage and funding for job-training programs.
Known to his friends as "Zeke," Santiago was chairman of the Banking Committee and sat on the Appropriations and Commerce committees. The Democrat was first elected to the General Assembly in 2008. He previously served on the Bridgeport City Council.
Santiago's family members were on hand for the emotional tribute.
