Every passenger rail line in Connecticut is expected to have positive train control installed on their systems by the end of the year.
Outgoing Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker says the state's three rail lines will be in full compliance with new Federal Railroad Administration requirements by Dec. 31.
They include the New Haven and Hartford Lines and Shore Line East.
Redeker says the state's rail lines "are already exceptionally safe and positive train control provides us with another layer of safety." Such systems are designed to stop a train automatically before an accident occurs and help prevent derailments caused by excessive speed and other issues.
The FRA has required every passenger rail line in the country to have positive train control installed by the end of 2018.
