Events Planned to Highlight Need for Improved Public Transit

Events are being planned around Connecticut to highlight the need to make public transit more accessible and affordable.

Local political leaders, environmental and transit advocates plan to hold a series of news conferences on Monday, which they've dubbed Transit Equity Day.

Organized by the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs, the events will be held in Hartford, New Haven, Norwich, Bridgeport and Stamford.

Monday is also the birthday of Rosa Parks, the late civil rights activist who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955.

Free coffee and bus passes, bus pass raffles and demonstrations of bus features such as bicycle racks and bus access are planned at the different events.
