About 16 federal agents are at CRT offices at 555 Windsor St. in Hartford on Thursday morning and the third floor of the building, which includes executive offices, is closed to employees. Agents returned again on Friday.
CRT is the Community Renewal Team, a nonprofit that runs Head Start, Meals on Wheels, emergency assistance programs and more.
“Federal agents from the Health and Human Services Administration have subpoenaed records from the CRT relating to a specific program,” CRT said in a statement. “ These records were previously released to the agents and CRT is happy to provide them again. CRT is pleased to cooperate fully with any and all investigations."
Nancy Pappas, director of external affairs, said she believes that agents are collecting records on the home solutions program that was funded through state bonding money and provided money to residents for home renovations, such as fixing failing septic systems and lead abatement.
The home solutions program ended around two years ago, Pappas said, and the company previously provided the records requested, Pappas said.
The third-floor, which includes executive offices, media and community relations, accounting and the information technology department, is closed.
The preschools CRT runs at that site and others are not affected and are open on Thursday.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, there is a search warrant and no arrests are expected.
The Hartford Courant reported in February that the U.S. Attorney's Office had subpoenaed records from CRT after a column reporting that the CEO rarely reports to the office and that the state's attorney general was also investigating possible misuse of funds.

Officials on Thursday did not confirm that this investigation is connected, but said agents could be at the offices for several hours.
