A fire lieutenant in Cornwall jumped right into action when a fire started at his own house early Friday morning.
Around 3 a.m., he smelled the smoke, got everyone out of the Kent Road house, ran a quarter-mile down the street to get the fire truck and started battling the fire by himself, officials said.
The firefighter, who has not been identified, is with the Cornwall Bridge Volunteer Fire Department, according to Connecticut State Police.
The blaze closed down Route 7 from Furnace Brook Road to Route 45. At least seven departments were called to fight the fire.
