Hamden High School will be closed today out of an abundance of caution after a threat.
In a tweet, Superintendent Jody Ian Goeler confirmed the closure was "out of an abundance of caution" and said it was to give police and school officials a chance to investigate the threat, which involved an anonymous tip to school administrators.
Police said school officials received a tip around 9:30 p.m. Thursday about an online threat of potential gun violence at Hamden High School and police started investigating.

Officials decided to close the school Friday out of an abundance of caution, police said.
Hamden police said they have increased their presence at Hamden High School over the past few weeks and will continue with those efforts. Additional police patrols will also monitor Hamden schools throughout town, police said.
"Last night, school officials were made aware of a threat at Hamden High School regarding potential gun violence, and the Hamden Police Department immediately launched an investigation into this online threat. Our Police Department is actively investigating this incident and I have every confidence that our school administration is working hard to keep our children safe," Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett said in a statement.

"I applaud the students who were proactive about their safety and reached out to the police, administration, and parents about this threat," Garrett went on to say.
Anyone with information about the threat is asked to call the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
Earlier this week two Hamden High School students were charged with assault after a fight turned violent and one of those students was stabbed, according to police.
