Three Post Offices Weather Rainy Day, PRC

Three of 13 post offices might survive closings

Bad days are coming for 10 Connecticut post offices but good days might be coming for three that could escape the chopping block.

The folks over at the U.S. Postal Regulatory Commission decide which post offices survive and which go the way of the Pony Express, and they just might save branches in East Hartford, Hamden and the La Salle Road branch in West Hartford.

The remaining 10 are casualties as people turn to the Internet to communicate and pay bills.

These offices are still on the chopping block:

  • Bridgeport: Barnum & Noble offices
  • Hartford: Blue Hills & Old State House
  • New Haven: Baybrook, Kilby, Trolley Square, Westville
  • Stamford: Glenbrook, West Avenue

Last year, U.S. Postal Service mail volume fell by 9.5 billion pieces.  That loss is expected to nearly triple this year.
