Malloy Calls for Review of CL&P

Former FEMA director will head up the inquiry into CL&P and UI

Gov. Dannel Malloy is calling for an independent investigation into CL&P and UI's response to the October Nor'easter.

Former FEMA director James Lee Witt will head up the inquiry, the governor announced Friday evening.

"We need to have a very timely review of the power company’s performance to identify what went wrong and why it went wrong," Malloy said.

Witt now heads up the consulting firm, Witt Associates, which focuses on public safety and crisis management.

The governor is asking that the investigation is completed by December 1, ahead of the winter season.

CL&P President Jeff Butler said he welcomed the inquiry.

Despite a firestorm of criticism, Butler still stands by his company.

"I believe CL&P has done a very good job," Butler said. "Is there an opportunity to improve? There’s always an opportunity to improve."
