A Willimantic man is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after someone slashed him with a machete and attacked him early Saturday morning.
Willimantic police responded to 3 Milk Street at about 5 a.m. Saturday to investigate reports of a man stabbed.
The preliminary investigation revealed someone struck the man with a large rock and then stabbed him with a machete, police said.
Willimantic fire/rescue personnel transported the man to Windham Hospital Emergency Room to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not publicly identified the man at this time.
The Willimantic Police Department's criminal investigation division and K-9 team assisted with the investigation.
Police have not made an arrest, but detectives have identified a person of interest.
Police ask anyone who witnessed the assault to call the Willimantic Police Department Criminal Investigative Division with any information. Calls will remain confidential.
