Mascot Stealing Prank Gets Teen in Bear of a Mess

What started as a silly high school prank is yielding very serious results for two jokesters.

In December police were alerted to the disappearance of Torrington High School's stuffed grizzly bear mascot during a basketball game. The police found the unnamed bear and now the suspected teen bear-napper has been charged, according to the Register Citizen.

Douglas O’Leary, 19, of Thomaston, has been arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, the newspaper reports.

And the case goes on.

“The case is still under investigation,” Detective Sgt. James Campbell told the newspaper. “Once we get one more arrest, we will hopefully release the mascot to the high school.”
