Student-Teacher Accused of Traveling for Sex With Teen

A student teacher at the American School for the Deaf from West Hartford is accused of traveling to upstate New York to have sex with girls he thought were between 14 and 16 years old.

State police in New York arrested Micah S. Brown in a hotel in Dewitt, New York, the Utica Daily News reports. Dewitt Town is just a little east of Syracuse.

Officials from the American School for the Deaf said he worked with middle school students and will not be returning to campus.

On Wednesday, state police and West Hartford police were at his residence on campus to collect evidence. Among the items they confiscated was his computer.

State troopers began investigating in February when a girl, described as underage, told New York troopers that she had a sexual relationship with Brown.

She told police she met Brown in an AOL chat room in November, he helped her with schoolwork, then began text messaging her, state police told the Daily News.

In February, Brown traveled to meet the girl and allegedly gave the underage girl marijuana and booze and engaged in sexual conduct with her, troopers told the newspaper.

When he was arrested this week, he was at a hotel, waiting to have sex with 14- and 16-year-old girls, officials said.

Brown was charged with two counts of attempting to disseminate indecent materials to a child, according to Syracuse.com.

He was arraigned in DeWitt Town court and is being held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail or $1 million bond, state police said.

Officials from the American School for the Deaf are notifying parents of the incident.
