Lauralton Hall High School in Milford is closed today after a car crash caused nearly 2,000 power outages in town early this morning.
A truck crashed into a pole on High Street and United Illuminating reported 1,828 outages at one point.
People all over town were affected, including those at a local convenience store who wanted to buy tickets for the record-breaking Powerball but could not.
"All of a sudden, half of the building went off the power," Richard Kern, a postal worker from West Haven, said. "I looked outside and the transformer blew."
Power has since been restored.
Milford police are investigating the crash.
