A 31-year-old motorcyclist who was injured in a hit-and-run on Whalley Avenue in New Haven Saturday morning has died and police are searching for the driver.
Police responded to Whalley and Osborn avenues at 2:05 a.m. found medics treating 31-year-old Garry Gulledge, of Oakville. His 2006 Suzuki SV650 was damaged and in the road, police said.
Witnesses had little information for police other than that a silver SUV fled north on Osborn Street and two officers who arrived to assist at the scene reported seeing the motorcyclist performing a sustained “wheelie” on Whalley Avenue, near Sherman Avenue, about eight blocks east of the crash site, police said.
Police learned at 2:39 a.m. that Gulledge died from his injuries, police said, and said the cause of death was blunt impact injuries of the neck and torso.
Police searched for surveillance from before, during and after the crash and managed to get a photo of a silver Acura MDX, with a likely model year between 2003 and 2007.
The passenger side rocker panel is missing and there is other damage to that side as well, police said.
Police are searching for the driver who hit Gulledge and they are asking for the public's help.
