New Tower at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington Opens

Work is complete on the $318 million new patient care tower at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington and the facility is opening today.

The tower has 11 floors, 169 private inpatient rooms, staff offices, emergency services, an intensive care unit, orthopedic and general surgery, a bone marrow transplant unit and respiratory therapy.

Patients were taken from the existing Connecticut Tower into the brand new state of the art University Tower on Friday morning with help from doctors, nurses and volunteers.

“We have even noticed the patients have asked to have their beds turned so they can now look out at the beautiful view they have from the patient room,” Anne Diamond, CEO if John Dempsey Hospital, said.

Construction at the hospital is far from over, however. Crews still have about a year left of work left on the academic entrance and renovations to the old hospital.
