Avon Woman Killed in Fiery Crash on Route 15 in Norwalk

A 46-year-old Avon woman was killed in a crash on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to state police.

State troopers responded to the southbound side of the parkway near exit 40 after receiving several 911 calls about a serious crash and a car that was on fire.

Police said Hongying Tian, 46, of Avon, was driving a Volkswagen Passat and traveling at high speeds on Route 15 South when she hit the guardrail and a tree, then went across both lanes and hit several other trees.

Tian was thrown from the car and pronounced dead shortly after being transported to Norwalk Hospital, state police said.

Two other vehicles were hit with debris during the crash but no one in those vehicles was injured.

The highway was closed for several hours and reopened around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses are asked to call 203-696-2500.
