Robber Said Cash Was for Medical Bills: Police

Victim was unloading items from his car around 9:30 p.m. in the Westlake section.

Police are looking for a robber who told the victim he needed money to pay for a family member’s medical expenses.

The victim was unloading items from his car around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on Ridgefield Drive in the Westlake section of town when a man with a white handkerchief covering the lower part of his face approached, police said.

The robber pointed a gun at the resident and demanded money, police said. The victim gave the robber $40.

The victim told police that the man spoke with him throughout the robbery and said he lived in the area and that the money was for a close family member.

Several patrol officers responded to the scene but were not able to find the man.

The major investigations unit is now investigating and looking for a thin man who is about 5 feet, 8.
He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt when he committed the robbery and ran off after getting the money.
