Suspect in Armed Robbery at Clarion Hotel in Hamden Arrested

A Wethersfield man is accused of robbing a Hamden hotel at gunpoint in March and has been arrested.

Johnny Doward, 54, of Wethersfield, is accused of robbing the Clarion Hotel, at 2260 Whitney Ave., on March 16.

Police said he approached the clerk and asked him to give him change for a $1 bill. When the clerk opened the cash register, Doward pointed a gun at him, ordered him to “get on the ground” and took cash, according to police.

New Haven police arrested Doward on April 20 on unrelated charges and he was turned over to the custody of the Hamden Police Department.

Doward was charged with robbery in the first degree and larceny in the sixth degree and held on a court-ordered $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 7.

Branford police provided help with the investigation.
