Tavern Where Officer Drank Before Crash Closes

A tavern connected to the investigation of a Windsor Locks police officer has now closed.

The Suffield Tavern closed about a month after video from a security camera showed Michael Koistinen drinking just moments before he hit and killed a teenager with his car, reports The Hartford Courant. The tavern's owner could not be reached for comment.

Koistinen is charged with manslaughter in the death of Henry Dang, 15, on Oct. 29. State police are investigating the accident and why Koistinen was not given a blood alcohol test.

Suffield First Selectman Tony Frenaye told The Courant that he spoke with the owner about a week ago.

"I certainly don't think that (the crash) helped any, but I also think they were struggling before that because it's tough for any restaurant right now," he told the paper.

An attorney representing the Dang family has said they also plan to sue the tavern owners, in addition to Koistinen and his father, who is a sergeant with the Windsor Locks police department.
