A teenager has died after a crash at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison on Saturday night.
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation (Encon) Police said they were called to the park around 7:10 p.m. after getting a report of a crash.
According to police, the crash happened between the rotary and the ticket booth and involved a single SUV that had rolled over.
There were six people in the vehicle and two were ejected during the crash, police said. The driver and three of the passengers were transported to area hospitals.
One of the passengers, later identified as 18-year-old Nicholas Proto, of Higganum, was pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital, authorities added.
The Connecticut State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is assisting Encon Police with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
The park was closed on Saturday night as crews investigated and reopened on Sunday morning.
