Police ID men killed in Hartford as search for 4 shooters continues

NBC Universal, Inc.

Two men were killed in a shooting in Hartford early Friday morning and police are searching for four shooters who they said opened fire and are believed to be connected to several other incidents in which gunshots were fired in Hartford and Newington.

The two victims were men in their 30s, police said.

Police said there is video of the shooting. The victims were in the area of Park Street and Hazel Street around 1:17 a.m.

when a vehicle approached, four males got out and started shooting. Police said they found 101 casings at the scene.

One victim died at the scene and the other died at Hartford Hospital, police said.

Police have identified the victims as Jonathan Roseboro, 39, of West Hartford, and 34-year-old Jose Valdes.

The shooters fled and police found a black Nissan on fire on Woodland Street in Windsor. It was badly burned, police said.

They believe another driver picked the shooters up in Windsor.

As police search for the shooters, they said the investigation is a division-wide effort and this case has similarities to several shots fired incidents where there are several shooters.

Gunshots were fired just after 1 a.m. Wednesday on Ledyard Street and police said the shooters appeared to be targeting a specific person or group.

They located 52 spent casings of different calibers at the scene.

The vehicle that was at the scene was a silver four-door Audi with a sunroof and heavily tinted windows, police said.

There were three male shooters, police said, and one was firing an assault rifle. All three were dressed in black and were wearing white sneakers.

Then on Thursday, police responded to Park Street, near Putnam Street, at 12:44 a.m. after ShotSpotter went off and they found 39 spent casings, as well as 13 spent rifle rounds.

Video showed three males dressed in black clothing and white sneakers open fire on a group of people in the area, police said.

Several parked vehicles were damaged by gunshots.

The vehicle in this incident was also a silver Audi with a sunroof and heavily tinted windows, police said.

The CT license plate on the Audi at the time was BH14971, which police said does not belong on the vehicle.

Shortly after that incident, several people fired gunshots at a home in Newington, police said. The video in that incident also matched the Audi, Hartford police said.

The description of the shooters who committed the double homicide on Park Street in Hartford Friday morning matched the two other incidents, police said.

Police have not determined a motive for the incidents and said the people involved should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.

While police have located the vehicle they said was used in the shooting Friday morning, they have not located the Audi.

Hartford police said they are involving state and federal law enforcement to help find the shooters and they are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects and vehicle involved.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford Police Department at (860) 757-4000, or the anonymous tip line at (860)722-TIPS.
