Two Early Morning Shootings in New Haven

New Haven police responded to two early morning shootings Saturday.

The first happened near 50 Fitch Street.  One man was shot in a gang-related incident, according to police.  No other details of that shooting were released.

The second crime took place in the Fair Haven section of the city.  At 3:30 a.m., two men approached a car stopped at a light at Hamilton Street and Grand Street, police said.  They allegedly tried to rob the four passengers of the car.  Two of the passengers were shot following an argument police report.

The driver of the car with the wounded passengers drove the vehicle to downtown New Haven, according to police, and he flagged down the fire department for help.  The car ended up in the middle of Chapel Street near Crown Street.

As of Saturday morning, police released few details of the incidents, including the condition of the victims.  A police spokesman did issue a request for the public's help in solving the crimes.
