Work Begins on Troubled Hartford Development Project

Front Street Site Work Gets Underway

Crews are beginning work on a key piece of the revitalization of downtown Hartford.

The Front Street Development Project is finally moving forward after several false starts.

The $30 million project across from the Connecticut Convention Center has been redesigned and is much smaller than the original conception. It includes approximately 68,000 square feet of retail space.  Developer Bradley Nitkin said the housing portion will have to wait until market conditions improve.

Site work and the installation of utilities began Monday, followed by some preliminary foundation. The developer hopes to be pouring the foundation by the spring.

Drivers and pedestrians will deal with detours in the area through the Spring 2010.
