High Fashion for Less

2010 is the year of the collaboration, as more and more high-end designers and even celebrities are teaming up with lower-priced chains to bring fashion to the masses. Here's what's on our calendar!

Target
<a href=http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/THREAD-Liberty-of-London-for-Target-Pop-up-Sells-Out-Early-87502232.html>Liberty of London for Target</a> debuted in early March more lion than lamb, sending us soaring into spring and selling out in an instant. The first of Target's collaborations to include both fashion and home decor was a smashing success, with their cheerful prints splashed across everything from bicycles to pillows to dresses to piggy banks - at equally pleasant prices.

Target
Jean-Paul Gaultier is really the haute designer's haute designer (among talents like Christian Lacroix and John Galliano), so snapping up one of his floral dresses or a trench coat for less than $1000 will be a singular thrill come March 7, when his Target line hits a limited number of stores and online. The second installment of Sona Rykiel's capsule collection for H&M (the first included rosette-topped lingerie) hit stores February 20, and features the Paris designer's iconic striped knits, bright and chic separates, and more.

Lanvin for Acne
Only a brilliant design house like Lanvin could take our breath away with a denim dress. The line of denim dresses, skirts and embellished separates was produced by <a href=http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/THREAD-Acne-x-Lanvin-88843332.html>Lanvin in conjunction with Acne</a> and quite frankly, we haven't been this in love with jean skirts since the summer of sophomore year.

The Thread
Jil Sander was so excited about the second installment of her clean-lined, pitch perfect collection for Uniqlo that <a href="http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/THREAD-J-Uniqlo-Launch-Includes-99-Cashmere-and-Jil-Sander-in-Person-81503997.html" target="_blank">she actually <em>came</em> to the New York launch</a>. The line includes $99 cashmere, puffer coats for $59.50, and crisp white blazers for $79.50.

JCPenney
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen might have made names for themselves as actresses, but their fashion cred was firmly established with their two lines, The Row, and Elizabeth & James. The twins' teen line for JCPenney, Olsenboye, hits stores in February. Urban Outfitters
Beloved Brooklyn indie Rachel Comey launched her own line in 2001, and it's grown steadily ever since -- to the point that most fashion editors obsess daily over her laid-back, feminine style. Luckily, <a href="http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/Rachel-Comey--Urban-Outfitters-Part-II-82215277.html" target="_blank">she's created a capsule accessories collection with Urban Outfitters</a> that includes bags and some shoes -- all for less than $100.

Rachel Comey isn't the only indie who's landed at Urban Outfitters: Steven Alan has <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/category.jsp?_DARGS=/urban/catalog/common/highlited_itemcount.jsp_A&_DAV=true&_dynSessConf=5414504952037847949&itemCount=60&pushId=W_APP_BRANDS_LARKANDWOLFF&id=W_APP_BRANDS_LARKANDWOLFF&selectedProductColor=&navCount=&navAction=push&sortby=&prepushId=&popId=WOMENS_SHOPBYBRAND" target="_blank">created a capsule called Lark & Wolff</a> packed with the label's signature crisp blazers, trousers, and trim skirts -- all under $100.

Cynthia Vincent
In addition to its drool-worthy roster of guest designers, Target will be collaborating with some under the radar accessories talents. The first, Cynthia Vincent, will be creating a line of shoes (likely sandals and flats like this colorful pair from her main collection) to launch in April.

Sydney Narvaez
The second designer involved in Target's accessories push for April is hat-maker Eugenia Kim, whose toppers typically run about $275 (<a href="http://www.shopbop.com/max-fedora-green-leopard-band/vp/v=1/845524441858509.htm?folderID=2534374302062819&extid=affprg" target="_blank">like this version, available at Shopbop</a>). If her Target line is as charming as her main collection, we anticipate a lot of chic ladies wearing hats this spring.

Neiman Marcus
Sarah Jessica Parker was recently appointed president and chief creative officer at Halston, where she'll be primarily working on the legendary label's lower-priced line, Halston Heritage. The HH dress she's wearing in "Sex and the City 2" is actually now <a href="http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod101340079&parentId=cat25180732&masterId=cat000059&index=1&cmCat=cat000000cat000117cat17740733cat000059cat25180732" target="_blank">available at Neiman Marcus for $325</a>.

Due to popular demand, Zac Posen launched the slightly lower-priced <a href=http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/Zac_Posen_Launches_Z-Spoke_Line_At_Saks_New_York.html>Z Spoke</a> line at Saks, consisting of dressed down sportswear to complement his primary collection of glamour-girl high fashion.

A collaboration that literally blossomed on the beach in Montauk, designer Cynthia Rowley for Roxy will bring surfer girl styles exclusively to Barneys in New York and Colette in Paris in March.

Tucker by Gaby Basora
Gaby Basora's Tucker line may be only a few years old and relatively little-known outside of fashion circles, but it's scheduled to join the ranks of talents like Proenza Schouler and Rodarte in designing for Target. Insiders speculate that the Tucker for Target collection will launch sometime in the summer, since the chain will have its hands full with plenty of collaborations through the spring.

Having boosted her exposure to a fever pitch after dressing First Lady Michelle Obama for the Inauguration, <a href=http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/THREAD-Isabel-Toledo-to-Design-Shoes-Handbags-for-Payless-88815777.html>Isabel Toledo</a> is now flexing her veteran talent for a line of shoes and accessories for Target. The line, with nothing higher than $40, will be a serious departure from high fashion price points for the designer.

<a href=http://www.thelimited.com/Jodi-Arnold</a>Jodi Arnold for the Limited brought the fun femininity characteristic of the designer's Mint label to the masses at a range between $58-$120. It was the first designer collaboration for the ladies' chain.

Teen sensation Miley Cyrus teamed up with a pretty respectable designer, Max Azria, to launch a line for Walmart. Predictably, it ended up looking a bit tawdry (Union Jack tees, miniskirts, vests, and such), but the price points really can't be beat.
